Readers of XL, the magazine edited by the well-known Italian national newspaper La Repubblica, can find an Augmented Reality surprise, powered by Seac02, on the edition of march 2010. Connecting to the XL’s website and showing the cover of the magazine to the webcam, users will see the last videoclip of Gorillaz, the mysterious cartoon band to which the cover itself and a news in the magazine are dedicated. The application is made using Flash texture tracking technology, in order to let people enjoy easily Augmented Reality online without downloading any plugin. The videoclip appears and plays with audio on the cover of the news paper and follows it. This is the very first markerless Augmented Reality application on the Web for an Italian national magazine.
